The loss of our written language?

It has been too long since I had a chance to write. I seem to have been in a bit of a malaise the first couple of weeks of 2006. A mixture of the winter blues and the post-holiday blahs. A couple of days ago I came out of it a bit and thought, "Holy shit! I have so much work to get done before the end of the month!" I went from malaise to panic and have been working way too much!

I have been troubled the last couple of days about something. I have reviewed a few cover letters for job applications and saw a few introduction letters sent to a friend of mine via an online dating service and they made me wonder - are we going to completely lose our written language? I understand there is a place for short hand while text messaging and I know that emails tend to be much more casual in voice than letters once were, but that doesn't mean we should let it all go to hell! What about spell check? Maybe some fundamental grammar? Some of these letters were just dreadful. It would have been different had they been addressed to an old friend, but these were intended to interest a prospective employer or woo a beautiful, educated woman! Am I just being an elitist? I know that I am no Tolstoy - so I am not casting stones, but I do try to at least read over something before I send it to make sure I have not made glaring errors (though I am sure some people can find errors in this entry!). Hmmmm. Another example, I was sent a film script the other day for an audition. This was a short film - 10 pages total. There were at least 2 errors per page - some of them so bad that I was unsure what the sentence was meant to say. It made me feel the project was amateur and made me question whether I wanted to work with them. If they were this sloppy with the script - could they be trusted with the rest? Again - maybe I am a snob and have done way too much proof reading work in my time.

I do not ask that everyone be eloquent and impactful - just pay a bit of attention and show some pride. Maybe I will just have to accept - but not without a fight! Anyone have a thought about this?

Ran into Dr. Ruth in the park today (she lives up the street from me) and was a bit star struck - is that wierd?

HOOK 'EM HORNS! Stick that in your Heismann, Reggie!

HAPPY 2006!

Usually, I am surprised that a year is over and it all seems to gone too fast. For some reason, 2005 seems to gone on a bit too long - I think I am glad it is over. There were a lot of trials in 2005 - but not too many tribulations. I mean - 2005 was a huge success and I am happy with the results, but while I was in it, it was tough. Between Tad being gone for the summer, my 2-full-time-jobs-at-the-same-time summer, getting my play pushed off twice, Tad's new job, trying to make the decision to have a baby, and the miscarriage...there was lots of room for growth experiences. I am grateful for every one of them. They all set us up to be were we are now - and that is a good place. I am not sure if I have ever been happier, healthier, or more ready to take on the world.

Here's is to the lessons and gifts of 2005!

Here's to a monumental 2006 - it's gonna rock!

Hello! This is my first blog entry ever - feel very contemporary! This is a brilliant idea, Tad. I hope we all use it to keep in touch - hint, hint.

I will write more soon - promise.
